Title of Original Illustration: Vesna (Spring)
Medium: Coloured Pencil Crayon
The “Vesna” or “Vesnas” were mythological young women associated with springtime. It was also a name for a pre-Christian Slavic Goddess of Spring and Fertility. Along with her male companion “Vesnik”, she was associated with rituals that took place in rural areas during springtime. The term “Vesna” is still the poetic word for “Spring”. This is the second Art Nouveau inspired piece in which I wanted to capture the confident beauty of a young woman in pre-Christian costume surrounded by apple blossoms and the renewal that spring brings.
