Tamara (black & red)
The illustration represents my daughter’s belief in her Ukrainian heritage and her passion for Ukrainian Dance. I am incredibly taken with the intricacy of the intertwining patterns of the Art Nouveau style. Upon quickly sketching my daughter sitting beside me one night the composition took to formation. The Pre-Christian costuming seemed to blend into the artwork's patterning so easily. This piece holds a special place in my heart and is a symbol of my Art style. I experimented with the image taking the simple line drawing of the original colour version and keeping the Black and Red colouring. The combination created a dramatic symbolism of Ukrainian culture particularly that of the traditional Red Poppy, the national flower of Ukraine.
